Villa Mocenigo-Randi
Cartura (PD)
The vast complex of Villa Mocenigo-Randi in Cartura was built along the Cagnola canal by the Mocenigo family at the end of the 15th century. Its main façade overlooking the water, the villa was probably a two-storey compact isolated building with a rectangular plan and a view of the surrounding countryside. The identity of the people who commissioned the villa, together with the quality of its architectural features, and some details that are very similar to Palladio‘s works seem to suggest the architect did at least some works on the villa itself; however, the historical researches have not been able to confirm this. On the main floor and mezzanine of the main body there is still a wide range of frescoes dating back to the late 1500s and the early 1600s. The main building has two equal-sized floors with a small centred portal in the middle. On the eastern and western side there are two wings connected to the garden by three arches, the middle of which is much wider. The garden is composed of an internal courtyard adorned with several flower beds and by a small area with a romantic garden; while the front part of the estate features fruit trees.
