Villa Giustiniani

Villa Giustiniani

San Pietro Viminario (PD)

Villa Giustiniani in San Pietro Viminario has a very particular T-shape; the longest part, the transverse one, was built in the second part of the 15 th century and is composed of a three-storey main body with two rural buildings on the side, which were used for agricultural purposes until a few years ago. The plan of the middle part follows the traditional trend found in Venetian villas and is composed of a middle hall and four rooms in each corner.   Cardinal Rezzonico (who would then become Pope Clement XIII in 1758), stayed here in 1747 when he undertook a pastoral visit in the private oratory consecrated to the Holy Family, as the commemorative plaque tells us.   In the second half of the 17th century the complex was extended, (perhaps this was decided by doge Marcantonio Giustiniani), and a state entrance to welcome guests was added. The façade features architectural elements that are typically found in Palladian villas, such as four Doric columns in a giant order. Other architectural elements of relevance are the five steeples in a pyramid shape found on the roof line, which have an obvious decorative, eye-catching function. There are also obelisks with akroteria on the main façade.   Address: via Ronchi, località Vanzo, San Pietro Viminario (PD) Private Info: www.villavanzo.com
