House of the Captain, House of God
Pernumia (PD)
The Casa del Capitano in Pernumia was originally, as reported by Pernumia’s 13th-century charters preserved in Padua’s “Biblioteca Capitolare”, the Ospitale di Santa Maria, called “Casa di Dio” (the House of God); it was located near the archpriestal church and merged with the Town hall and its Palazzo del Capitano. The hospital was mainly used as a shelter for pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land and to give shelter to orphans before sending them to Padua. During the second half of the 15th century, when hospitals were reformed, Ca’ di Dio was probably partially rebuilt and modified, and it was certainly radically renovated in the following century. This bulding’s hospital use ceased when the Masieri family of Pernumia started using it as a private home. Address: via Castello, Pernumia (PD) Private
