Church of Sant’Antonio Abate

Anguillara Veneta (PD)

The church of Borgoforte in Anguillara Veneta, which is consecrated to Saint Anthony the Abbot,  was first mentioned before 1297, while a report regarding a pastoral visit in 1449 tells us that there was a country church in the village of Borgoforte, consecrated to Saint Anthony the Abbot and subordinate to the church of Anguillara.   The church, which became autonomous in 1618 and was extended and renovated in 1907, currently has three altars consecrated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, to Our Lady of the Rosary and to Saint Anthony of Padua.   It is also home to an organ by Gaetano Callido (Este, 14 January 1727 – Venice, 8 December 1813) the most famous Venetian organ maker and one of the greatest of all times; the organ was modified towards the end of the 19th century by organ maker Annibale Puggina and brought back to its original state by Guglielmo Paccagnella in 1995. It was also used for a national organ competition for a few years.   Address: via Ponte, località Borgoforte, Anguillara Veneta (PD) Open to the public Info: Parrocchia Anguillara Veneta https://www.parrocchiadianguillaraveneta.it
