Oratory of San Valentino
Bagnoli di Sopra (PD)
Near Villa Zara there is one of this hamlet’s most symbolic monuments: the “Oratorio dell’Immacolata e dei SS. Pietro Apostolo e Valentino Martire” of Bagnoli di Sopra. Another small religious building consacrated to the Virgin was once on the same site, of which we know about because it was mentioned in the reports of some pastoral visits that occured in this area between the end of the 1700s and that of the following century. The current building dates back to the 19th century and has a quite small rectangular plan with some small protruding rooms on each long side, which used to be the matroneum and sacristy. The interiors are very sober as the only decoration is the altar at the far end. The façade, instead, is austere but quite interesting, as it features a trabeatd door enriched with curved mantels with a nice profile and, in the upper part, a semi-circular window surmounted by a wide arch.
